Be Appreciative:

A good leader knows that he or she needs to be appreciative of his team and show this appreciation is frequently as possible. For a leader to be successful she or he must have the backing of the team and to do that the leader must show that the team’s efforts, time and dedication is appreciated by leadership.

Be Confident:

If a leader is confident, the team members or employees trust that leader more and are more likely to believe in the vision and mission of the team. Also, confidence is inspiring and a leader needs to keep his or her team members inspired always.

Be Compassionate:

A good leader should not rule with an iron fist. Being compassionate and showing sympathy and empathy shows the team members that the leader cares about them. A good leader uses compassion to perceive the needs of those they lead and to decide a course of action that is of greatest benefit to the person and the team. Man people view compassion is a weakness but the opposite is the case. Compassion is a strength.

Be Courageous:

Courage is the display of confidence in your abilities as a leader. A courageous leader is prepared to take risks when no one else will. A courageous leader is prepared to delegate tasks and trust that they will be completed accordingly. A courageous leader has faith in his or her team members and teaches the team members to be leaders themselves. A courageous leader is ready to tackle difficult issues, is ready to give difficult feedback, make difficult decisions and stir the team with confidence.

Be a good decision maker:

A big part of being a courageous leader is being a good decision maker. This also requires confidence and clarity. The ability to decide to act and then to act has characterized all successful leaders of history and also in current times, in whatever field of endeavor, and their success has been measured directly by the clarity of their decisions, the determination with which these were executed, and the tenacity with which they clung to their purposes.

If a leader is unsure of their decision or backtracks or makes decisions without having all the facts, they end up leading their team to chaos an team member loses confidence in the leader and in worse cases the team members also lose confidence in the team and its mission.

Be Diligent:

Diligence is a trait that everyone needs. A leader needs to inspire their team by showing a strong work ethic and a willingness to dedicate time and energy to the goals and mission of the team.

Be flexible:

The ability to adapt the goals of the team to the external and internal environment, unforeseen circumstances and other variables are what makes for a good leader. A good leader should be able to welcome new ideas, change and improve on a plan or course correct if that’s the better decision. Being flexible also means being a responsive leader. Good leaders are responsive to the needs of those they lead. They adjust their behavior to best match the situation. They listen to their team; they value their team.

Be Honest:

If a leader is dishonest, the followers and team members will lose trust in their ability to lead and this will lead to a loss in good faith and eventually, the team will be compromised. A good leader should not be afraid to admit when they are wrong and should be honest with the team if there is bad news.

The ability to show integrity especially in a time of adversity will make the team members look up to and respect the leader even more. Honor is a trait that is respected and valued by all humans. It has its roots in self-respect and pride, a virtue as old as mankind. The moral of the individual and of the organization flows directly from the right to stand bravely and honorably among others. Without truth and honor a leader cannot be a good leader.

Be Patient:

A good leader must learn to be patient in order to stir his or her team in the right direction. Humans are bound to make mistakes and if a leader cannot accept mistakes from his team members or be patient with them, he would come off is difficult to talk to, difficult to approach and the team members will feel separated from their leader. Impatience is an indication of lack of balance and of an inability to rise above unpleasant conditions. A good leader must always be in control and reacting to a situation with impatience signifies a loss of control.
