The System

The TMI-CMN monitoring system, developed by International Medcom, monitors radiation levels in a 15-mile radius around the Three Mile Island nuclear plant.

The system consists of 30 remote monitoring stations which report by radio frequency telemetry to the Central Station at the TMI-CMN office. Each station has two radiation sensors, and nine of the stations also have meteorological sensors that measure wind speed, wind direction, and temperature. Several of the remote stations are in public buildings for public access.

At the Central Station, the data is displayed on a map, saved, and analyzed. Current data is transmitted to the Harrisburg Emergency Communications Center.

Update June 13, 2007: We are experiencing difficulties with our radio telemetry system. The map showing real time data is currently unavailable. We hope to have this working again soon.
